At
first
glance, this may look like a common tabby house cat. When I saw two of
these cats on my first trip to Kenya, I thought the same thing. It was
only after leaving that I discovered this cat's true identity. It is not
a gray tabby at all. It is, in fact, an African wild cat.
It
is no coincidence that our common house cat is
so similar in appearance to the African wild cat. All domestics cats
today are descendants of the African wild cat. It is the original
"house cat."
Although
I missed the opportunity to photograph it on
my first trip, I was fortunate to see another African wild cat on my
second trip to Kenya. That is when I took this photograph.
